Red has not one, but TWO songs nominated for Rock Song Of The Year…those are their back-to-back Rock radio singles <\/span>Who We Are <\/em>and <\/span>Perfect Life.<\/em>. Not surprisingly, Skillet's <\/span>Sick Of It<\/em> is also nominated in the category as is We As Human's <\/span>Strike Back<\/em>, and Remedy Drive's <\/span>Resuscitate Me. <\/em> All five of those songs are Blasted here. <\/span><\/p>\n Switchfoot's song <\/span>Afterlife <\/em>is among the nominees for the "Rock\/Contemporary" Song Of The Year Category. Red is the only band nominated in both the Rock Song and Rock Album of the Year categories. In the latter category, their <\/span>Release The Panic<\/em> album is among the nominees, as are: Flyleaf's <\/span>New Horizons<\/em>; Thousand Foot Krutch's <\/span>The End Is Where We Begin<\/em>; Fireflight's <\/span>Now<\/em>; and House Of Heroes' album <\/span>Cold Hard Want<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the Recorded Music Packaging Of The Year category, Demon Hunter's <\/span>True Defiance (Deluxe Edition)<\/em> is one of the 7 nominees. Rock and metal artists have no nominees in the Short Form Video category, and, as usual, they have no entries in the Song Of The Year category, which says little about the talent in the Christian Rock and Christian Metal field and says a lot about who is voting in the process: it seems that most people aren't going to vote for that which they don't listen to, as the aggressive, progressive side of Christian music is largely dismissed by much of: (the church, Christian radio, and the Christian music industry as a whole). <\/span><\/p>\n Plumb, which got its\/her start on Christian Radio in the Rock realm, interestingly has one song nominated in 3 categories. <\/span>Need You Now (How Many Times) <\/em>is nominated for Song Of The Year; Contemporary Christian Performance Of The Year; and Pop\/Contemporary Song Of The Year. Noteworthy from the Rap\/Hip Hop realm of music: LeCrae is actually nominated for Artist Of The Year, which seems surprising in a field dominated by "contemporary" artists. His chances are probably greatly boosted by the fact that he has done a lot of collaborations in recent times with pop and contemporary artists. We're not saying he should't win. But, let's be realistic. His birth name is neither Chris Tomlin, nor is it Toby McKeehan, and both of those artists are in the competition. We predict the voting will follow the lines of how voting for the position of Noxious Weed Commissioner go: most people will vote for the most familiar name, only with a lot more enthusiasm. <\/span><\/p>\n The full list of nominations for the 2013 Dove Awards is found at www.doveawards.com.
